5 Gift Wrapping Hacks for Parents To Save The Holidays
Before I had kids, we were at a friend’s house as they wrapped toys for their kids and they gave us a tip about wrapping toys that we have remembered for years. It has helped save our holidays. Of course, we have learned a few more tricks the hard way, so I am here to share my tips with you and help save your holidays.
1. Cut the ties
When you purchase toys, you know how they have all those ties or tabs to keep them in place in the box? This was the tip we learned from our friends. They go and cut all those ties, or now-days you remove the tab, so that the toys can easily be removed and played with. GENIUS!!!
You can carefully open a box and do this, then put the toy back in, or you can wrap the toy outside of the box.
2. Power Up The Toys
We all know it is important to have some Energizer® batteries on hand when kids unwrap all those toys. But, it is really hard for kids to be patient as you add batteries to all the toys. For this reason, I suggest picking up some Energizer MAX® batteries and Energizer® Ultimate Lithium™ batteries in AA and AAA as those are the most common. Then check if any toys need another size, and pick them up as well. We always keep the AA and AAA Energizer® batteries on hand.
We love the Energizer MAX® batteries to have on hand long term for all our electronics, flashlights, and more because they last up to 10 years in storage.
While you are cutting the ties, be sure to put the batteries in the toys. Now the toys are ready to be played with as soon as they are unwrapped. This is super important for preschooler and toddler toys where all of the battery packs use screws. It can take precious amounts of play time to wait for parents to open up those toys and get the Energizer® batteries in.
3. Choose How To Gift Wrap Toys By Child’s Age
It is little Tommy’s first holiday season. It is so cute to watch him try to open up the presents, right? Until you are on 15 minutes of trying to get the paper off the first box.
Choose to wrap gifts in a way that is appropriate for the child’s age. For smaller kids, choose something easy to open, like placing gifts in a bag with tissue. It will be so cute to see your little one pull tissue out of a bag, and will go much faster than waiting for him to unwrap a box.
As you move on to preschoolers, if you put a toy in a box (that it didn’t come in) try a gift box with a lid so they can easily open it after they take off the wrapping paper.
4. Marking Gifts
Last year we tried something new with our gifts. Because our twins (then age 2) were well aware of their first initial, as it was what defined who owned which toy, we tried out just marking their wrapped toys with their initial. It worked out so well. Our kids were easily able to tell which gifts were theirs.
We made sure the initial was nice and clear and quite large. We will definitely be doing it again this year.
5. Be Prepared For Unwrapping
Be prepared for the unwrapping frenzy. Have a garbage bag or can that you can place all of the wrapping paper in. Have your kids throw away their wrapping paper before getting a second gift to open. I know it seems fun to have all that paper all over and would be a cute picture, but trust me on this. It is much easier to get them to throw it away as you go.
If you like to work on gifts in the dark, or if you are just looking for something for mom or dad, you can also pick up an Energizer® Brand Headlight. My husband loves his so I picked one up for me. Great for gift giving or to go in your camping gear. Plus, they also count towards your $5 Walmart Gift Card. Energizer® has a range of lightweight and versatile lighting products for those tasks that require two hands.
