For those who do not know, the Goof is having some medical problems right now that require us to “keep him calm.” As any parent of a three year old can tell you, this is definitely not easy. Especially since he doesn’t “feel” sick. So I have been trying to come up with some kid friendly crafts to do to keep us both entertained. I think I had a winner this time! These DIY candle holders are super easy- and best of all, outside of the mod podge, all the necessary supplies can be found at the dollar store!
I got this really cool Mickey Mouse punch. I have been having so much fun with it. I decided to see how it would work on tissue paper while doing this craft.
I picked up a pack of tissue paper at the dollar store and also got 5 of these glass, square candle holders/jars. (I just have to say- I love the dollar store for craft supplies for kids. Love it!)
Take the tissue and choose the colors you want. You can do several things with the tissue. Rip it up into small pieces, cut out geometric shapes, or use a punch to cut out a shape.
I couldn’t pass up a chance to use my Mickey punch, so that was my obvious choice. The Goof and my niece use ripped pieces of tissue for theirs.
Next you need mod podge and a brush.
I found the easiest way to do this was to put mod podge on one side of the holder, then carefully place the tissue one it. After you have all the tissue placed on that side, go over the tissue/side with mod podge again.
With the Goof and our niece, I would cover the side with mod podge then let them place the tissue on however they wanted.
I did the Mickey heads in a pattern on mine, and then I did one like the Goof and just put random pieces all over to cover the entire side.
After you have done all 4 sides, let it dry. Then go over it again in another coat of mod podge. Let it dry and then they are done.
The only thing left to do is to put a candle in them. Or if candles aren’t your thing- fill it with candy or marbles or something fun.
Will you be making these DIY Candle Holders?
