So, your kid loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and wants a cake based on Mickey, or maybe Toodles. Don’t fear- even the beginner can make an awesome cake of one of these characters! I am going to show you a super simple, cute, and easy cake.
You will need:
- Your favorite cake recipe. My friends Betty (Crocker) and Duncan (Hines) have some awesome ones that all I have to do is add eggs, water and oil! LOVE!!!
- 2 6″ Round baking pans
- 1 8 or 9″ (I prefer 9) round baking pan
- Frosting for fondant in the colors needed for your character (I used a chocolate fudge frosting)
- A big surface to put the cake on. When the cake is traveling I suggest a cake box, but in this tutorial I used a large round pizza pan.
Make your cake mix/batter. If you want a nice full cake- you will most likely need 2 mixes (or double the recipe). Because I was just making this cake for the tutorial, and for our little family, I only made a thin cake. (about an 2 inches deep).
Pour batter into greased pans and bake until done. Remember the old stick a toothpick in to check it trick.
As soon as the cake comes out of the oven, take a butter knife and run it around the edges of the cake to make sure it is separated from the pan.
Let the cakes cool 15-20 minutes. Then, remove them from the pan, evening the tops (which will then become the bottom) if needed. Go ahead and snack on anything you cut off. 🙂
Place the cakes on your cake base, box, or in my case- tin foil covered pizza pan.
This is where the design can differ slightly. If you are doing Toodles, do not cut the cake. Toodles has full circles for ears that barely touch the large circle. You can do this for Mickey too, but I like the more classic Mickey so I carve the small cakes to fit the large cake. (Did that make sense?)
Now, I like to let my cake cool more. As in- I stick it in the fridge. After it finishes cooling and is nice and cool. I frost it. If you are doing Toodles, you can use fondant and make it colorful. If you are feeling ambitious, you can use frosting to do Mickey’s face on the cake, but remember- the title of this post is EASY Mickey Cake. So, I just used chocolate fudge frosting that was quite dark. And yes, because of laziness lack of time, it was from my friend Betty again.
I made this one as a birthday cake for my birthday dinner tonight, but I also made a thicker version of this for the Goof’s first birthday!
Then, for a smash cake, I used a 6″ round for the head, and cupcakes for the ears. You could also, if you didn’t carve the ears to fit the head, use an ear as the smash cake. The Goof seemed to enjoy it.

Your cake looks SO cute, and YUMMY! Thank you for linking to mine as well! You are so thoughtful!
Although, I think the link might be accidentally sending people to your ETSY shop, which is so fun btw!
Thanks for finding that. That is what happens when I am working on 3-4 things at once. LOL! I fixed it!
BWAHAHA! Sorry about that! I fixed it!
