I am still scratching my head that the 90’s are back in. While I was born at the beginning of the 80’s, the 90’s are probably my defining decade. I was a teen in the 90’s, and experienced the explosion of CD’s, cell phones, DVD players (I remember I bought one and my friends thought I was the coolest). And kids today are emmulating the styles, and yes… the products, shows, and more of the 90’s.
I have decided rather than shaking my head at how silly I looked in wide-leg jeans that were a size or more too big, wondering why anyone would bring those back, I have decided instead to embrace the awesome things that are back. Yes, I am totally geeking out with my kids and I think you should too! It has been a blast from the past bonding with them over things I experienced growing up, and now they are enjoying too.

90’s Comebacks To Geek Out With Your Kids Over
You wait long enough and almost everything comes back in style. While there are some things I wish wouldn’t, when my kids “introduce me” to their new obsession, and I am able to be the cool mom that knows all about it, they are quite impressed. Kid… I lived through it.
Some of my childhood toys are back
My kids have been impressed by how long I can keep an electronic pet on a key ring alive. They didn’t believe me when I told them I had one when I was just a few years older than my oldest. When my son killed his after a couple days, I showed him how to keep it alive for a week. I won major cool mom points for that one.
My favorite shows and movies are coming back
Whether it is streaming old episodes on a streaming service, reviving my favorite after-school cartoon featuring the Warner Brothers (and sister), or finally making a sequel to Space Jam… I am here for it. In fact, I just watched Space Jam (1996) with my kids in anticipation of the new movie Space Jam: A New Legacy, coming to theaters and HBO Max on July 16, 2021.
Novelty Candies
We had some really cool candies in the 90’s. There are some things that I hope never come back in style (candy that mocked some bad habits… IYKYK) I am all for some of my favorites like candy that come inside toys. CandyRific is releasing some fun ones with Looney Tune characters (um… and think how many times Looney Tunes has come back from generation to generation) and they sent me some to check out. This line is being released and is in celebration of Space Jam: A New Legacy.
From fans like we had, to ones that use new technology to put on a light show, and a Light and Sound wand that features Bugs Bunny and plays the Looney Tunes theme, they take me back to the 90’s and my love of all these fun novelty sweets.
I don’t remember what came in mine, but these ones have Jelly Belly® organic jelly beans in them. This brings me to my next 90’s nostalgia geek out…
Jelly Belly Flavors
I remember when I was in junior high trying a whole bunch of different flavors of Jelly Belly® jelly beans with my friends. I intentionally didn’t tell my kids about them in the fans and other toys, hoping they would be happy with the flavored dextrose candy in the Tweety Bird candy popper… but darn it… my twins going and learning how to read busted into my room the second day saying “It says there is candy inside!”
They really enjoyed trying the different flavors and trying to guess what they were.
I am pretty excited that right now, they think I am the cool hip mom, because that may not last much longer.
