Every year my family has a holiday party where we get together, before Christmas week, and enjoy a meal, party games, and have a fun gift exchange. The gift exchange means we never know exactly who is going to end up with what gift.
I am in charge of the family party, so I love to find new games to do, but I also have to prepare gifts for the exchange. Today I am going to share a delicious gift and then a fun gift exchange game for you to try out at your next Holiday party.
A Delicious Gift Exchange Gift Basket
I always kind of hope the gift I bring is a big hit and that people hope they get. Which ones do people in my family usually love to get? The ones involving food! We have several young married couples in our family, so I thought it would be fun to create a delicious “date night in” food basket.
My area has these cool new Albertson’s stores that they are being built (they are SUPER NICE) so I decided to go check one out and pick up some items for a basket there. I want the basket to say “date night” so I thought a pasta dinner would be nice.
I was checking out the pasta sauce and kind of fell in love with the Signature RESERVE™ brand. The packaging was beautiful, but that wasn’t all that caught my eye. When I was trying to figure out what sauces to pair with what pasta, I noticed that the sauces noted on the side which pasta they worked well with. That is perfect for a girl like me who thinks all red sauce must go with spaghetti. (It doesn’t have to.)
It also tells you where globally this sauce orignates from. I love the Signature RESERVE line’s global ingredients and unique flavor.
So I grabbed a sauce and a bag of pasta, but decided a date night needs a sweet dessert or something at the end. I found these super yummy caramel chocolates in both milk chocolate and dark chocolate, delicious and decadent. They are packaged beautifully and made the perfect addition to the basket.
I have fallen in love with the quality, and delicious taste of the Signature RESERVE line at Albertson’s.
Of course, I swung by the cookware section and found a set of wood utensils and a festive colored colander to complete the basket.

Super Fun, Fast Paced Gift Exchange Game
This gift exchange game is one my family did years ago. This game may be out there on the interwebs somewhere, and if it is, let me know. I, however, first learned it at my family’s game, so I figured I would share in case it is one that has not been done elsewhere.
I love this game because it is fast paced. You don’t have to sit around while everyone else debates if they want to unwrap a new gift or steal one.
Setting Up The Game
To start, you will need to set everyone up in a circle. Each person will need a gift (wrapped) and you will need 4 dice (2 sets of 2). A timer or something to decide how long to play for.
This game works really well with large groups. I would say you need a minimum of 10 people for this game to be super fun. If you have more than 18 people, add an extra set of dice. More than 25, another set, and so on.
How To Play
Have everyone choose a gift, or hand them out, and have all the guests unwrap them.
Hand the dice sets out to random people in the circle and tell them which way to pass the dice after rolling. (For added fun you can different sets of dice moving different directions.)
Each person takes a turn rolling a set of dice and then passing it.
If you get a double (2 of the same number) you get to swap gifts with anybody in the circle, but you have to go fast since multiple sets of dice are making their way around the circle.
There are no rules on stealing back a gift, or how many times a gift can be stolen. But if you roll doubles, you must swap gifts, even if you really like the one you have.
The more sets of dice you have, the crazier it gets as people roll, pass, and try to swap all at the same time.
I have not been to the Albertson’s on Broadway yet, even though I work at BSU. I can’t wait till they open the one in Meridian.
