Traveling with twin infants, and after spending some fun filled days in southern California, we knew driving the entire way home in one shot was a bad idea. So, my family decided to stop in Vegas for a few days. You can see all of the fun we had by checking out #VegasForFamilies on twitter and instagram.
Like I mentioned last week (in THIS post) we have found that searching for a hotel for a family of five is a real chore, and not only that, finding something that is kid and budget friendly in Vegas has its own challenges. Enter Best Western McCarran Inn.
Disclaimer: My family received a compensated stay at the Best Western McCarran Inn so I could review and share my honest opinion with you. All opinions are 100% my own.
The Best Western McCarran Inn is about 1-2 miles off the strip. This was perfect because I don’t like the hustle and bustle of the strip when trying to get to my hotel in the evening. The hotel does have a shuttle that can take you to the strip if you want, and it is also really easy to get to the strip. The hotel is located right next to the airport, which I will get to in a moment.
Where to start? How about with the story of our arrival. We arrived at the hotel and it was 114 degrees outside. YIKES! Mike stayed in the car with the air conditioner running while I went to check us in. The lobby is pretty typical of a Best Western. It is clean, has a breakfast area, but nothing over the top fancy. Still, it was obvious there had been some upgrades done. The staff was extremely friendly when they welcomed us and checked us in. The only complaint about the lobby area is that the elevator doors are a bit narrow. If I had wanted to bring our double side-by-side stroller in the hotel I am not sure it would have fit.
Now let’s talk about the rooms and why this hotel is great for large families. First, the rooms have definitely been upgraded. Remember my last hotel review where I talked about the carpets. Well, this hotel had beautiful carpets, great furniture, and the rooms were very spacious.
Those carpets (see picture above) were fun and modern and you could tell they were newer. The bathroom was gorgeous (though I forgot to get pictures) and probably the cleanest hotel bathroom I have seen in a long time.
Now, we stayed in a family suite, because remember, we are a family of 5 so our “number of guests exceeds maximum occupancy” for standard guest rooms. Boy, this room was spacious. It had a separate “living room” with a pull out sofa, coffee table, dresser and television. Then the bedroom had 2 queen beds (and they were SO COMFY) and a mini-pull out (twin size I believe), a dresser, desk area, 2 benches, microwave and a fridge.
The breakfast at the hotel was yummy and had hot items. Always a step up from most free breakfasts. I also liked that they start serving it at 5 am. That made it so the day we headed home we were still able to grab a bite to eat before our early departure.
We also checked out the pool area. Like I mentioned previously, the pool area does allow you to notice how close you are to the airport, but pools are usually loud anyways. The pool has two cabana type areas, and several chairs. The only problem was it was 115 degrees out when we went swimming. Yeah, the pool felt amazing! The cement did not. But it was pretty easy to wear your shoes right to the edge of the pool. So it was all good!
We absolutely loved the hotel. You know we loved it when my only complaint is I wished they lined the trash cans. (But don’t worry, the cans are super clean, but I just felt it needed a liner). Seriously, if you are looking for a budget friendly hotel, a little off the strip, for a large family, this hotel was great!
