I have shared the last few years how I do not set resolutions. I mean, I kind of do. I reflect on the past year and think about where I want to be in life this time next year. I think about what I can do to find myself in that place and what one word I can use to inspire me to reach those goals through out the year. I am hoping by sharing my one word for 2018 with you I might inspire you to reflect on your life and think about where you want to be next year. Maybe you will fine your one word to inspire you for the year.
One Word For 2018
My one word for 2018 is more. Just hearing that by itself some might think my word is about greed or wanting more stuff, but I promise that is not it. I honestly first thought of a two word phrase that would inspire me “do more” and then I realized, there were several two word phrases that I wanted to use. The one word in common with all of them was more.
So let me explain to you why my one word for 2018 is more.
Like I mentioned above, when choosing my one word for 2018 I originally was inspired by the two word phrase of “do more.” I want to do more in 2018. Experience more adventures with my family, do more in my community, and do more with my business (which includes this blog)
I want to show more love to those I care about. I mean, I don’t treat them poorly, but I want to find ways to show them how much they mean to me. Maybe that is telling them more often or maybe it is some random acts of kindness, but I want to let those I love know it more than ever.
I am working on some fitness goals this year, and I want to keep working on being more active and making sure that I am able to enjoy life with my family. I want to get back into hiking every weekend this year. We did great hiking in 2016 but 2017 kind of found us doing other things. In 2018 I really want to get out on the trails again and enjoy nature with my family.
I have so much to give. My time, my talents, my love, my services. I want to give more in 2018 to help others and inspire them. That may not mean giving money, but maybe giving of my time or helping others in ways that I may have a talent or knowledge that they could find useful.
I think my biggest inspiration though for my one word in 2018 was “share more.” I was reflecting and invisioning and all that good stuff, and I realized, I have a story and I should be sharing that with all of you. Not because I am super interesting or anything (because trust me, I am not) but because maybe my story (or stories) will help or inspire others.
Like, did you know that we went through years and years of infertility? This is something I have been so open about in my “in real life” conversations, but online, I rarely share about it with you guys. I loved talking to others about it in person because I found so many people that I was able to help. There could be people online that need to hear my story.
Or maybe you didn’t know about the fact that my son has a rare auto-immune disease. And that auto-immune disease is a blood disorder. And he also has severe ADHD…the two don’t mix well.
And maybe you did not know that I struggle as a parent more days then not. Or that my husband has some strange medical stuff going on, or….the list goes on and on. And no, this doesn’t mean I am going to turn this into a personal blog all about my family and giving you updates. It means, I am going to try and let you know more about me and my family if I think that it is something that might benefit you.
I also want to share more of our adventures, both on the road and at home. I want to share how we are planning and saving money because really, I want this year to be the year that you realize that you too can travel and do the things you love.
In the end I want to share more because me, my story, my thoughts, my perspectives…that is what makes this site of mine unique. There are probably a million other blogs that have some of the same great Disney tips that I do. Or that have similar craft tutorials…but they don’t have my perspective and my crazy stories to tell.
So What Do I Want From This Word?
By the end of 2018, I hope that I will be able to say that 2018 was more fulfilling, created more growth for me personally, and brought more joy to my life. I don’t expect this word to work magic and suddenly bring me everything I ever wanted. I don’t expect picking this word to mean all of this will come naturally. Of course I will have to work for it. But picking my one word for 2018 just makes all those goals and resolutions seem more attainable, and simpler.
