When I was little we had paper routes. From the time I was 6 years old I helped deliver papers. In the winter, my favorite thing was coming home and having some yummy homemade hot chocolate. It would warm us up in the winter, and heck, we even loved a good hot chocolate in the summer.

As a mom, I haven’t gotten into making hot chocolate other than the instant kind…which I will be honest, isn’t very yummy. So I have been trying out some homemade recipes. I want my kids to have that kind of memory of me making homemade hot cocoa on a cold winter morning.

Another thing to know about me, I love cookies and cream. Funny, because I don’t like Oreos by themselves (I know, I am crazy) but I love them in milkshakes, and now hot cocoa.

Today I am sharing this extremely yummy cookies and cream hot cocoa recipe. Even better is that it can be made in the slow cooker. I love that because, long story but, one time I caught a corner of my blanket on fire serving myself up some homemade hot chocolate when I was little.

I don’t know if I ever told my parents about that. It was a tiny edge that caught on fire and I quickly put it out. But yeah, don’t serve yourself up hot cocoa from the stove while wrapped in a blanket.

This slow cooker hot chocolate recipe is so simple, which is great for busy moms, but it tastes delicious. My kids love to help make it as well. So without further ado, here is the recipe:

Ingredients for Slow Cooker Cookies and Cream Hot Chocolate

You most likely have all the ingredients you need in your home for this slow cooker hot cocoa recipe. The cookies and cream flavor is in the ingredients and Oreos are only needed to garnish the top.

INGREDIENTS

  • 6 cups milk or half and half cream – When I was little we used powdered milk and I never noticed a difference in taste, but I think now as an adult I probably would? Maybe?
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips – NOT semi-sweet
  • Whipped cream, for garnish
  • Oreo cookies, crushed, for garnish

How To Make Slow Cooker Cookies And Cream Hot Cocoa

Like I said before, this is a seriously simple recipe. I let my kids help me mix the ingredients and it still takes less than 5 minutes to prep.

1.   Pour the milk or cream into a 1.5 quart slow cooker.  Stir in the vanilla extract.

3.  Heat the cocoa on high setting for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, stirring every 30 minutes. Reduce setting to low or “warm” until ready to serve. For reference, I do not let my kids stir the hot cocoa during this part.

4.  Before serving, crush 6-8 Oreo cookies into smaller pieces.

5.   Pour the hot, steamy cocoa into your serving mugs.  Add whipped cream and a generous sprinkling of the crushed Oreo cookies.
