It is that time of year- Graduation! We have a few friends with kids graduating in the next couple weeks, and I wanted to make something cute as a graduation gift. I was at the Dollar Tree spending way too much money on random stuff when I saw a graduation tassel key chain and some mason jars. The wheels in my head started turning and I decided this would be a cute, easy, and fun graduation gift. This gift cost me under $10 for all the supplies except the cash I added to represent the diploma. It also took less than 10 minutes to make. Hopefully this will be the perfect graduation gift for the scholars in your life.
What You Will Need:
1 piece of construction paper or cardstock in the school color
Key chain Tassel (or make one)
Candy of your choosing (I chose candies in school colors)
Curling Ribbon (in school color)
Cash (if desired)
Start by cutting a 2.5″ by 2.5″ square out of the colored paper. Then cut an 8.5″ strip that is the width of the mason jar lid.
Adhere the strip to the rim of the mason jar lid. I used super glue for this part. After adhering, double check that the paper is not too tall for the lid (you want it flush).
Insert a the center part of the lid. I glued mine in with super glue so it wouldn’t fall out every time the jar was opened. Then adhere the square top to the lid. I taped mine so that it could be easily removed if it was too hard to take the lid off with it on.
Attach the tassel. Since the tassel I used was a key chain I just slid the cap into the key chain.
Next, take the cash and roll it to resemble a “diploma” (although my diploma – or the fake one they give out on stage – was not rolled like that) and tie with the ribbon. Curl the ends of the ribbon.
Fill the jar with candies. I chose candies that were the school colors but you can choose something else. Smarties to represent how smart they are, or even their favorite candy.
Put the lid on the jar. Now use ribbon or string to tie the money diploma to the jar.
