I live in Idaho, which means that winters here can get pretty cold and we tend to stay inside a lot. While it helps us stay warm, it can lead to winter boredom. One of our favorite ways to beat winter boredom is with a family game night. It lets us have fun together, and without the television being on (nothing wrong with that, but it’s a good break) and using our minds a little more.
Our family loves games! We love them so much, we have an entire walk-in closet dedicated just to games that we use for family game night. From old board games to new electronic ones, we have them all. Today I am excited to share with you about one of our new favorite games in our collection.
Last weekend, we were all getting over being sick and so we weren’t going anywhere, even though we had a pretty decent weekend weather wise. So we decided to try out Hedbanz™ Electronic.
My oldest loves to try out new games, and we felt that he was finally ready for this game. We were right and he had a blast! He did need a little help switching out the cards on his band, but other than that he did great.
If you aren’t familiar with the game, basically, players wear a band on their head where they play a card that others can see. Then they try to guess what they are (within a specific category) by asking yes or no questions, such as “Am I a dessert?” It is a lot of fun.
So what is different about Hedbanz™ Electronic?
If you have played the original game, you might be wondering what is different about Hedbanz™ Electronic that makes it perfect for Family Game Night. To start, you get to play in teams. I love team games because it helps when you have younger players to be able to team them up with adults. Or maybe let teens go against their parents. Either way, I always think team games are fun because you have others cheering you on and trying to win with you.
Hedbanz™ Electronic also has an awesome “electronic host.” The host is your timer and also determines how you will play the game.
What do I mean by how you will play the game? Well, Hedbanz™ Electronic actually has 3 different ways to play.
- Ask it. Ask “yes” or “no”questions. This is the version I described above.
- Describe it. The guesser’s teammates can say anything except the actual word on the card to help the guesser figure it out. This is a great one for younger kids.
- Do it. The guesser’s teammates have to charade the word until the Guesser correctly guesses the card or time runs out. They can not talk or use sound effects.
You don’t get to choose which one you get as the electronic host will pick it, but you can switch the game to classic mode and play like the original Hedbanz™ where you just ask it.
Is it good for Family Game Night?
This game is perfect for family game night if you have kids age 7 and over. While slightly younger children might be able to play, I found that 7 is a deal because that is when they are familiar with most of the items you will find on the cards.
This game is also good for Family Game Night because it encourages using your mind and team work. I know that ever since we played, the Goof has been using process of elimination to try and figure out different things (specifically what his Christmas present might be).
I also love that the game is always changing. We played a few games of Hedbanz™ Electronic over the weekend and it seemed like each game was different and unique. We never got bored with it, though Mike did get a little upset when he couldn’t figure out “phone” LOL!
